[Japan] GMO MakeShop, Japan Post, and JP Digital (all based in Tokyo, Japan) announced that their pilot project—aimed at promoting the adoption of diverse package delivery methods utilizing “Digital Address”—has been selected as a recipient of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s “Subsidy for Promoting the Adoption of Diverse and Flexible Delivery Methods to Reduce Logistics Burden.”

Scheduled to begin in November 2026, this pilot project will utilize “Digital Address” to evaluate ways to enhance the pickup experience using “PUDO Stations” provided by Packcity Japan as one of the delivery options for e-commerce.The project will evaluate the effectiveness and scalability of “Digital Address” as a common platform for managing pickup locations, with the goal of creating a pickup environment that is user-friendly for consumers and easy for businesses to implement.
Regarding the roles of each company, GMO MakeShop will be responsible for designing and implementing the pickup experience on e-commerce sites built using “makeshop byGMO” and “GMO Cloud EC,” and will work to promote the use of diverse pickup methods.Japan Post will be responsible for planning and designing the system utilizing Digital Addresses, as well as overseeing the entire pilot project. JP Digital will handle system development for the framework utilizing Digital Addresses. Packcity Japan will provide the “PUDO Station” smart lockers, set up the pilot environment, and conduct verification through measures to promote usage.
Going forward, the four companies will use this pilot project to examine the challenges and benefits of promoting diverse pickup methods, while also working to address social issues facing the logistics industry. Furthermore, they aim to realize a pickup environment that is highly convenient for users and easy for businesses to implement, and will continue discussions toward future societal implementation.
