BMW Japan Finance (hereinafter “BMW Japan Finance”), a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW and the provider of BMW Group financial services in Japan, announced that it will begin issuing the”BMW Premium Diners Card” and “BMW Diners Card,” which incorporate plant-derived materials (biomass), starting August 3, 2026.

The BMW Diners Card can be used to pay for BMW vehicles purchased at authorized BMW dealerships, and it also offers a range of exclusive services designed to enhance the driving experience for BMW owners.
The “BMW Premium Diners Card” and “BMW Diners Card” are credit cards equipped with contactless payment functionality that use plant-derived materials (biomass) as part of their substrate. Since approximately 25% of the substrate by weight is made from biomass, it is expected that this will partially offset the CO2 emissions generated during incineration with the CO2 absorbed by plants during their growth,which is said to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and the consumption of finite resources such as petroleum. Compared to the incineration of conventional contactless IC credit cards made from petroleum-derived materials, each biomass card is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 3.9 grams.
Currently, a campaign is underway offering six months of free public charging service to subscribers of the new BMW iX3 through the BMW ALL IN. program.
In addition to existing “BMW Diners Card” holders, new subscribers who have switched their “BMW Diners Card” to the biomass card version andwho have registered for BMW Charging using their BMW Diners Card, will receive an additional six months of free public charging service on top of the six months provided by the campaign, for a total of one year of free public charging service.
Furthermore, the BMW Group places “sustainability” at the core of its business operations and is actively promoting the reduction of environmental impact across its entire range of products and services, as well as the comprehensive decarbonization of the entire automotive lifecycle.Biomass-based materials are environmentally friendly substrates that enable “carbon neutrality” by significantly reducing CO2 emissions over their entire lifecycle compared to conventional materials. Through this initiative, the company aims to contribute to reducing plastic usage and curbing CO2 emissions, taking a step toward realizing a sustainable society.
