[Japan] JCB (Tokyo, Japan) and Trend Micro (Tokyo, Japan) have announced that, to combat phishing scams andand credit card fraud, and announced that starting August 6, 2026, Trend Micro’s “Trend Micro Fraud Check”—a fraud detection feature powered by generative AI—will be available for continuous access and use within the smartphone app for “MyJCB,” the web service exclusively for JCB cardmembers (hereinafter referred to as the MyJCB app).

The number of phishing reports in Japan reached a record high of approximately 2.45 million in 2025 (about 1.43 times the previous year’s figure) and has remained at a high level since the start of 2026. In particular, the credit card and consumer finance sectors are among those most frequently targeted.Phishing can lead to the fraudulent use of stolen card information. The financial losses from credit card fraud in 2025 totaled 51.05 billion yen; although this represented a decrease from the previous year (2024: 55.50 billion yen), the figure remains high.
In response to this situation, the two companies announced a collaboration on August 20, 2025, to strengthen anti-fraud measures as part of their efforts to provide safety and peace of mind to JCB cardmembers. As the first phase of this collaboration, they conducted a pilot test offering Trend Micro’s “Fraud Check” feature to a select group of MyJCB app users.Based on the results of that pilot test, the two companies will now make this feature available on a permanent basis as the second phase of their collaboration.
Specifically, they will provide Trend Micro’s “Fraud Check” feature to MyJCB app users. When users submit screenshots of emails, SMS/MMS messages, social media posts, websites, or online ads, generative AI analyzes the content to determine whether it contains any signs of fraud. Users can also enter information such as suspicious links, email addresses, or phone numbers to check whether that information poses a fraud risk.
In the event that fraud is suspected, the feature will suggest recommended countermeasures. By using this feature, users can verify whether messages received via email, SMS/MMS, or social media are potentially fraudulent and prevent the risk of falling victim to fraud before it occurs.
During the pilot test period, more than 6,000 JCB cardmembers used this feature. Comments from users included: “I’m glad I was able to confirm that it was a scam email,” and “With scams on the rise lately, it was helpful to be able to verify whether an email was safe to open. Now I feel confident opening emails.”(paymentnavi Editorial Team)
