[Japan] “Rakuten Travel,” a travel booking service operated by the Rakuten Group, began offering instant discounts applicable at the time of booking as part of its “Rakuten Travel Bonus Program”—a unique loyalty program where member tiers and benefits increase based on usage frequency—effective August 5, 2026.At the highest level, Level 5, users can receive a discount of up to 4%. Furthermore, since these discounts can be combined with other discount coupons offered on “Rakuten Travel,” users can book accommodations at even greater savings.
The “Rakuten Travel Bonus Program” is a loyalty program that offers benefits when booking at approximately 8,000 participating accommodations nationwide, based on a member’s level—which is determined by the number of domestic accommodations and domestic tours (transportation + lodging) booked over the past year through the end of the previous month.As part of this update, the membership level system has been changed from “Levels 0–4” to “Levels 1–5,” and the benefits available based on each level have shifted from the previous point rewards to instant discounts at the time of booking. By combining these discounts with other discount coupons available on “Rakuten Travel,” users can book accommodations at even greater savings.
For online card payments, users who have stayed at eligible accommodations at least twice in the past year (Level 2 or higher) are eligible for the instant discount, and the discount rate increases by 1% for each level. For on-site payments, users who have stayed at least four times (Level 3 or higher) receive a standard 1% discount.Additionally, due to changes in the program’s level notation, users who are already enrolled in the “Rakuten Travel Bonus Program” will have the new level notation applied to them.
