[Japan] Rakuten Payment (Tokyo, Japan) has begun rolling out “offline QR Code Payments” for its cashless payment service “Rakuten Pay” at participating stores starting August 4, 2026.
With this feature, users can make payments using “Rakuten Pay” QR Code Payments even when communication conditions are poor, such as when out of range or experiencing weak signal strength.
If the network connection is poor, a prompt for “Offline Code Payment” will appear on the “Rakuten Pay” app’s home screen; tap this prompt.Next, tap “Show Payment Screen” at the bottom of the screen to display the “Offline Code Payment” screen.
