[Japan] Bookoff Corporation, a subsidiary of Bookoff Group Holdings (Kanagawa, Japan) that operates the “BOOKOFF” reuse store chain, announced that it will partner with FamilyMart to accept shipments for its Bookoff home pickup buyback service at approximately 16,000 FamilyMart stores nationwideThe company announced that it will launch the “Easy at FamilyMart! BOOKOFF Buyback” service starting August 25.

Users simply need to pack their items into a box and take it to a nearby FamilyMart at their convenience, allowing them to “reuse unwanted items while running errands at the convenience store.”
The company conducted a survey on reuse experiences and convenience store usage among members of the official BOOKOFF app, which surpassed 10 million members in January 2026. Among those who had used BOOKOFF, 89.2% responded that they “would like to sell items again.”The survey suggested that factors such as distance, time, and effort are key to creating a positive experience that encourages repeat use—with respondents citing reasons such as “it’s located near my home or places I frequent,” “I can shop while waiting for my appraisal,” and “it’s hassle-free.”
Furthermore, the survey revealed that one in two people use a convenience store at least once a week, and 96.8% reported having a convenience store along their daily route, confirming that convenience stores are an integral part of daily life.
The BOOKOFF Home Pickup Service allows people—even those without a BOOKOFF store nearby—to easily part with unwanted items from home or elsewhere, free of handling fees and shipping costs. Since its launch in 2007, the service has been used over 5.5 million times. “Easy at FamilyMart!BOOKOFF Buyback” is a concrete initiative under the “Strengthening the Procurement of Reusable Goods by Utilizing the FamilyMart Store Network” component of the capital and business alliance BOOKOFF entered into with Itochu Corporation in February 2026. It began in April 2026 as part of a pilot project to install clothing andhousehold goods at 30 FamilyMart stores in Tokyo, which began in April 2026.
Users can apply by filling out a web form with their preferred service plan, the number of boxes, and their bank account details for payment. Shipping and handling fees are free, and identity verification is completed entirely via smartphone. First-time users must register as members.
Users should pack the items they wish to sell into cardboard boxes or paper bags. Electronic devices should be protected with cushioning material. The service accepts up to five cardboard boxes, provided the total of the three dimensions does not exceed 160 cm and the weight does not exceed 25 kg. If the number of boxes differs from what was specified during registration, users can make changes.
Furthermore, scan the QR code issued after registration at a multi-function copier or Familocker located in a FamilyMart store to print your application ticket. Hand in the application ticket and your packaged items at the register (or deposit them in the locker if using Familocker) to complete the shipment. You can ship your items at any time within 29 days of registration.
Items brought to FamilyMart are delivered to the BookOff official online store’s warehouse. Upon arrival, they are appraised in order, and the appraisal amount is deposited into the bank account registered at the time of application within approximately 1 to 2 weeks. You can check the estimated appraisal completion date and purchase details on your BookOff member My Page.
Items sold that are reusable will be sold through the BookOff Official Online Store and delivered to the next person who needs them. The handling of items that did not receive an offer varies depending on the plan you selected when applying. Items eligible for sale include books, CDs and DVDs, game consoles and game software, clothing, bags, shoes, fashion accessories (hats, belts, wallets),brand-name bags and wallets, watches, household goods, home appliances, smartphones and cell phones, trading cards, hobby items (figures and model kits), stuffed animals, sports equipment, and musical instruments.
