Photosynth and Kumahira have begun collaborating on initiatives to further promote and expand the use of digital IDs, leveraging both companies’ strengths in cloud computing, IoT, and security.
Through this collaboration, the two companies will work together to jointly develop integration features between Photosynth’s “Akerun Digital ID” and Kumahira’s “Security System GG-2,” aiming to launch the service sometime in 2026.
Through this collaboration, the companies aim to provide infrastructure for safe, secure, and reliable identity verification in various spaces and facilities by leveraging digital IDs—including digital ID cards, whose use is expanding primarily in government agencies and educational institutions.
In recent years, the Japanese government has been actively promoting the use of digital IDs in daily life, including accelerating the adoption of My Number Cards and integrating health insurance cards and driver’s licenses into the My Number Card system.Furthermore, with the goal of improving convenience, efforts are underway to integrate electronic certificates—including the My Number Card—into smartphones, and progress is being made in building social infrastructure for safe, secure, and reliable identity verification.
Furthermore, in everyday life, the active use of digital IDs—by both individuals and corporations—has led to the widespread acceptance of online membership registration, payments, and service usage.In particular, for educational institutions, initiatives toward standardizing digital student IDs are beginning, and the trend of replacing traditional card-based student IDs with digital ones on smartphones is spreading. Consequently, the provision of services utilizing digital IDs for students, faculty, staff, and alumni is advancing.
Based on its operational track record and expertise as an authentication platform that has provided the “Akerun Access Control System” to more than 7,000 companies to date, Photosynth offers the “Akerun Digital ID,” which utilizes the wallet function on smartphones.Furthermore, Kumahira has a proven track record of over 30 years in providing comprehensive security solutions, including vault equipment for financial institutions and access control systems.
In response to the rapid expansion of digital ID usage in government agencies and educational institutions, the two companies have entered into this collaboration. By combining their respective strengths, they aim to achieve integrated and unified operation of digital IDs and access control across various authentication scenarios, thereby advancing physical security while simultaneously improving convenience.
Through this collaboration, the two companies will jointly develop integration functionality between “Akerun Digital ID,” provided by Photosynth, and “Security System GG-2,” provided by Kumahira, with the goal of launching the service by 2026.
As a result, users will be able to access facilities equipped with Kumahira’s “Security System GG-2” by using the “Akerun Digital ID”—integrated into their smartphone’s wallet function—in various settings, including government offices, educational institutions, medical facilities, and offices.
The two companies plan to promote the expanded use of digital IDs by rolling out this joint solution to government agencies—where demand for digital IDs is growing—as well as higher education institutions such as universities and vocational schools, and medical institutions.
