Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) has been offering “CATRINA,” its decentralized ID management platform that securely manages individuals’ identity verification information, consent, and permissions to support trustworthy online transactions, since 2024.The company has now expanded the platform’s scope from humans to AI agents and, on July 24, 2026, began offering digital identity management functions for AI agents making purchases on behalf of users in scenarios such as online shopping. This feature is designed to create an environment where only AI agents authorized by users can conduct transactions based on the user’s intent and permissions.

To expand the platform’s capabilities, DNP and Queue-it ApS (Headquarters: Copenhagen) conducted a joint proof-of-concept.In an environment simulating high traffic to products and services, they reportedly confirmed that safe proxy purchasing can be achieved by identifying legitimate AI agents and preventing unauthorized AI agents from making purchases on users’ behalf.
With the advancement of generative AI, there are high expectations for the realization of “Agentic Commerce”—a new shopping experience in which AI agents search for, compare, and purchase products on behalf of users. At the same time, documents such as the “AI Business Operator Guidelines” formulated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) identify preventing misuse and ensuring a safe and trustworthy transaction environment as an urgent priority as autonomous AI activities become widespread as part of social infrastructure.
A new challenge has emerged: verifying and authenticating users to determine “on whose behalf” and “with what authority” AI agents are acting, thereby ensuring legitimate proxy purchases.
DNP has expanded its CATRINA service by focusing on the shopping experience—including purchase procedures and queuing—on e-commerce sites experiencing high traffic, which is one of the expected use cases for AI agents. In this latest development, DNP partnered with Queue-it—which provides “online waiting room” technology to ensure fair queuing during periods of high traffic—to verify the proxy purchase workflow using AI agents in an environment simulating high-traffic conditions.
By extending the identity verification and authorization management technologies cultivated through CATRINA to AI agents, the company aims to provide a foundation that supports the safe, transparent, and fair online transactions required in an era where humans and AI agents collaborate.
Specifically, “CATRINA” is a digital identity management platform that utilizes “Verifiable Credentials,” a tamper-resistant digital certificate technology. With this functional expansion, the platform now supports AI agents, enabling the management of action permissions with the same rigor as for human users. By configuring the user’s intent and permissions within the AI agent, the system centrally manages “on whose behalf” and “to what extent” actions are permitted.
Furthermore, based on the principles of the “Agent Payments Protocol (AP2)”—a payment specification for AI agents being proposed and explored by companies such as Google—the system supports proxy purchases made by AI agents.
Furthermore, by combining “CATRINA” with Queue-it’s “online waiting room” technology, the companies have established a proxy purchase workflow designed for e-commerce environments experiencing high traffic.During the joint proof-of-concept, it was confirmed that only legitimate AI agents with digital identities managed by “CATRINA” could execute proxy purchases based on the permissions granted by users. Furthermore, the system was verified to enable fair access while preventing proxy purchases by unauthorized AI agents, confirming its effectiveness.
DNP plans to roll out “CATRINA’s” AI agent support features to e-commerce operators, financial institutions, and others, aiming to implement the system at a cumulative total of 10 companies by fiscal year 2027.Looking ahead, with an eye toward expanding beyond e-commerce to various services—such as finance, travel, and administrative procedures—where AI agents act on behalf of users, DNP plans to evolve “CATRINA” into a digital identity platform that supports both humans and AI agents.
