GMO Payment Gateway (GMO-PG) began offering the “Authorization Rate Visualization Option” on July 28, 2026, for merchants using credit card payments through its comprehensive online payment service, “PG Multi-Payment Service.” This option provides merchants with visibility into payment data such as authorization rates and 3-D Secure authentication status. With this option, participating merchants can gain a multifaceted understanding of their payment status via the dashboard on the “PG Multi-Payment Service” management screen, enabling them to use this information to maximize sales through initiatives such as improving authorization rates and enhancing the customer experience.

Additionally, starting on the same day, a free version of this option was launched for eligible merchants using the “PG Multi-Payment Service.” This free version allows merchants to view four key metrics—the current month’s authorization rate, 3-D Secure authentication application rate, challenge authentication occurrence rate, and 3-D Secure abandonment rate—directly on the management console.
Note that the authorization approval rate refers to the percentage of transactions approved by the card issuer following a credit inquiry (authorization) process for credit card payments.
The size of Japan’s B2C e-commerce market is expected to reach approximately 26.1 trillion yen (2024), and the e-commerce penetration rate continues to expand, currently standing at 9.8%.Credit cards account for 82.7% (2025) of all cashless payments in Japan, and credit card payments serve as the primary payment method for end users, whether online or in-store. For e-commerce businesses, optimizing credit card payment operations is a critical challenge that impacts sales opportunities and the customer experience.Meanwhile, in response to the persistently high level of losses from non-face-to-face transactions resulting from the fraudulent use of credit card information, the industry as a whole is working to establish an environment that deters fraud, such as by promoting the adoption of 3-D Secure. However, depending on how 3-D Secure is implemented, it can sometimes lead to lost sales opportunities, and e-commerce businesses are now facing the challenge of balancing fraud prevention with the customer experience.
In this context, e-commerce businesses have found it difficult to gain a clear understanding of their own payment operations—including approval rates, 3-D Secure authentication status, trends by card issuer, and the points in the payment process where users abandon the process or errors occur.Consequently, the inability to adequately identify areas for improvement, formulate countermeasures, and verify their effectiveness has become a significant challenge in payment operations.
Strengthening fraud prevention and improving approval rates are two sides of the same coin for e-commerce businesses. Recognizing these challenges, GMO-PG has been continuously advancing initiatives—such as the implementation of the fraud prevention service “Forter”—aimed at balancing fraud prevention with improved approval rates.
The new “Approval Rate Visualization Option” further advances GMO-PG’s existing efforts through data visualization. It creates an environment where e-commerce businesses can gain a data-driven understanding of their payment processes and consistently carry out the entire process—from identifying areas for improvement to enhance approval rates and the customer experience, to planning various measures and verifying their effectiveness.
The “Approval Rate Visualization Option” is an optional feature of the “PG Multi-Payment Service.”The paid version of this option allows users to visualize the current month’s approval rate and 3-D Secure authentication status via the dashboard on the management screen, enabling analysis from multiple perspectives. Approval rates can be analyzed by month, day, time slot, payment amount range, issuer, whether 3-D Secure was performed, and error code. For 3-D Secure authentication status, merchants can review the 3-D Secure application rate, challenge authentication occurrence rate, authentication success rate, abandonment rate, and status by process; furthermore, the challenge authentication occurrence rate can be analyzed by day, time slot, transaction amount range, and issuer.
This enables participating merchants to gain a multifaceted understanding of their payment status, identify areas for improvement, and work on formulating and verifying the effectiveness of specific measures—such as considering the implementation of fraud prevention services to improve approval rates and enhance the customer experience, optimizing 3-D Secure operations, reviewing payment workflows, and introducing additional payment methods.
